Javier Martinez LPC

I am a bilingual, Spanish speaking therapist that seeks to create a safe and supportive environment for my clients. I seek to empower the client through a trusting relationship that is conducive towards revealing one's authentic self.  I draw on a variety of therapeutic techniques as deemed helpful to the unique needs of each client, and I specialize in the practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).   I am passionate and curious to learn about the unique realities and challenges my clients face, in order to better equip each client in advocating for their needs and building confidence to strive towards building the life they seek.

My Story

Recognizing the challenges marginalized (BIPOC) (LGBTQIA) people face within an unjust society helps inform my practice of therapy and allows me to attune to my clients struggles and challenges.  By naming difficult external realities we can also begin to do the internal work around overcoming internalized shame, depressive and anxious ideations, deal with past trauma, and in turn start the healing process.

I primarily specialize in adolescents to young adults who have experienced any type of mood disorder (depression, anxiety, trauma, etc) and I have experience in counseling families as well. I also specialize in men’s issues and assisting men with relationships and vulnerability and overcoming stigma around mental health and wellness needs.

In working together, my intention is to collaboratively help you find the life you want to live, regain your access to love and acceptance, and expand your experience of a shared humanity that can lead to deep and fulfilling community and connections.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Latinx/e Mental Health from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
